The Pacific Northwest and the Inland Northwest, in particular, has a long history of white supremacy movements. For years neo-nazis populated in the Hayden Idaho area and were able to host parades in the city of Coeur D' Alene, the latest one taking place in 2020. Even though the region has tried to move away from being associated with such movements they are still present, with the SPLC tracking at least nine different white supremacist groups in the Spokane area as of 2018. Harpham himself was connected to the National Alliance which was once one of the largest white nationalist groups in the country.
