This 1904 advertisement represents one of the many times the Emery was put up for sale. Ownership of the hotel became particularly contentious after its foundation was damaged by blasting for the foundation of the Dessert building next door, an incident which occurred not long after this ad had helped Arthur D. Jones find a buyer, one James Tyra. The resultant dispute over whether Jones or Tyra should be responsible for repairing the structural damage meant that Tyra was eventually able to purchase the Emery for several thousand dollars less than the $35,000 price tag in this ad.
