This article dicusses the desire of some to change the name of Latah Creek to "Hangman" Creek. Qualchan's murder near the creek was the reasoning behind the push for the change from the native term "Latah". This was undoubtedly a means to impress upon the region's Indians the brutality, patronage, and domination that was used to displace them and its lasting effects.
