George Wright

A picture of Wright over a decade after his encounter with Qualchan. Col. Wright was eventually promoted to the rank of brigadier general of the Department of the Pacific during the CIvil War. The Vermont native was a veteran of the Mexican-American War and the Indian Wars. Wright and his wife drowned off the coast of California in 1865 as the result of a shipwreck.
