"The first church on the Colville Reservation. It was erected originally in 1874 at Whitestone, an area now inundated by the waters of Lake Roosevelt. It was built at direction of Chief Skolaskin (1839-1922) Leader Prophet and Medicine Man. Skolaskin achieved much renown by predicting the 1872 earthquake which shook up all of Northeastern Washington, and which also caused a large slide at Ribbon Cliffs downstream n the Columbia River." -- on sign in photograph.
