With over 600 buildings the Baxter General Hospital was intended to be self-sufficient and could provide just about any luxury for the patients and staff. With its own special churches, stores, entertainment facilities, magazines, and newspapers the hospital was almost its own city and earned the title City of Mercy from local reporters.
