Regal Shoe Company

Ghost Signs of Spokane Tour

Elmer J. Bliss established the Regal Shoe Company in Boston in 1893. It became the most successful company of its kind in the world until it closed in 1922 during the economic slump following WWI. Regal was the bargain brand of high-end shoes, sometimes half as expensive as others, which made it one of the best sellers not just in the United States, but in Canada, Latin America, the Middle East, and all over Europe. Indeed, in 1895 the company claimed that Czar Nicholas II Napoleon Bonaparte, the Mikado of Japan, and the Emperor of China all wore Regal shoes.
