Davis spent much of his time in the parlor of the hotel (seen in this photo) waiting for guests to visit. The story is that Davis secluded himself in the hotel in hopes that guests would arrive,while his wife spent her days at the family homestead. Many days and nights he wept as the hotel's decline worsened and fewer and fewer guests arrived. Davis would pass away in this very room in 1896.
