The 24,000 lb. monument dedicated to Antoine Plante's ferry crossing over the Spokane River cost a mere $500 and was erected in 1938. The Spokane Valley Kiwanis Club donated most of the funds. The project was spearheaded by Valley historian and settler Seth Woodard (seen in photo pointing across the river), as well as the Spokane County Pioneers Society and the Eastern Washington Historical Society. Looking east up the Spokane River, the Millwood/Argonne Bridge can be seen in the background.
